Small but compact and they are often wider than tall. Elegant and eye-catching , the have relatively demure leaves and grows from 6 to 12inches tall. Thrives in full sun and can withstand very hot summers. Grows in any type of soil and thrives in moderately fertile, well-drained soil.
How to sow:
Outdoor sowing - sow them directly into the garden once the soil is warm. You can, also, start sowing the seeds indoors, but they can germinate so easily outside. Marigold sprouts within days in warm weather and blooms in 8weeks time. Sow seeds 8 to 10inches apart.
Indoor sowing - start marigold seeds in seed starting flat filled up to 3/4" from the top with sterile, moist seed starting mix. Sprinkle the seeds on top of the medium and sow them at a depth that equals 2-4times the diameter of the seeds. Spray the soil surface with water to moisten it, then, place the tray in a plastic bag or cover it with a plastic wrap. This will promote soil-moisture retention. Marigolds can germinate both in light and darkness as long as they are exposed to a temperature of 70degreesF. During the germination period, remove the plastic bag or plastic wrap daily to aerate the tray and check the soil moisture. If needed, moisten the medium with a water-filled spray bottle to avoid washing away the seeds. The soil should remain moist not wet during the entire germination period.
Remove the plastic wrap or bag as soon as the seeds germinate. Provide a light source by placing it by the window sill.
