1776-1976 half dollar is a bicentennial coin because it was minted during the United States Bicentennial, which celebrated the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. A special design for the the Kennedy Half Dollar was created to celebrate the United States Bicentennial between 1975 and 1976. The redesigned obverse (heads) side featured a dual date (1776-1976) and the reverse (tails) side a likeness of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. According to the NGC Price Guide, as of December 2024, a Kennedy Half Dollar from 1776-1976 S in circulated condition is worth between $4.50 and $5. However, on the open market 1776-1976 S SILVER Half Dollars in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $12500.
