An aneroid sphygmomanometer is a manual device used to measure blood pressure, consisting of an inflatable cuff, a pump bulb, and a mechanical pressure gauge with a circular dial. It is used alongside a stethoscope to listen for blood flow sounds in the artery as the pressure in the cuff is released. Components Cuff: A fabric sleeve that wraps around the upper arm and contains an inflatable bladder. It is available in various sizes to ensure an accurate measurement. Bladder: An inflatable rubber bag inside the cuff that compresses the brachial artery in the upper arm. Inflation bulb: A hand-operated pump bulb used to manually inflate the bladder with air. Air valve: A control valve, usually located on the inflation bulb, to slowly deflate the cuff. Manometer (pressure gauge): The circular dial that displays the pressure reading in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Inside the gauge, a metal bellows expands and contracts in response to air pressure from the cuff, which moves a pointer on the dial. Stethoscope: A listening device required for the auscultatory method to hear the Korotkoff sounds, which indicate systolic and diastolic pressure.
