VIKTOR & ROLF — FW 2003 “ONE WOMAN SHOW” Rare early Viktor & Rolf piece from the duo’s iconic Fall/Winter 2003–04 “One Woman Show” collection. The collection was created as a tribute to Viktor & Rolf’s muse, actress Tilda Swinton. Swinton herself opened the show, while the rest of the models were styled to resemble her — pale faces, red hair and an androgynous appearance — turning the runway into a procession of “clones.” The show’s soundtrack featured Swinton’s voice delivering a message about individuality and following your own path, making the collection an exploration of identity, individuality, and the fashion industry’s tendency to reproduce a certain image. This piece embodies the collection’s signature approach to masculine tailoring, exaggerated proportions and sculptural volume, particularly through its enormous gathered sleeves, oversized cuffs and dramatic collar. One of Viktor & Rolf’s most important early conceptual collections. The “One Woman Show” is particularly significant because it marked the duo’s 10th anniversary and became one of their defining runway presentations. The collection has since been featured in major fashion exhibitions, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where pieces from the collection were exhibited.
