Produced by movie companies even on a limited basis proved a success as a vehicle for publicity. These Heralds were artistically illustrated by known artists and later in photographs comes in a box of 1000 lobby cards were distributed among theater owners with a blank back portion reserved for printing the name of the theater, playdate, or news reels. These few surviving antique collections were the result of some people’s passion for movie memorabilias, thus, the preservation of this bit of history on cinema. 🎞The movie houses in Manila flourishing before the turn of the century were : Paz, Cabildo, Empire, Majestic, Comedis, Ideal, Luz, Gaiety. Others like : Lyric, Metropolitan, Imperial, Auditorium, Hollywood, Radio (formerly Majestic), Fox, Rialto, Magallanes, Tivoli and Capitol came into existence and few remained before and after the WW2. Still others came like : Oro, Savoy, Times, Grand (later became Ever), Star, Plaza and Avenue Forum. In the outskirts of Manila are movie houses like: Paris, Pasay, Ioilio, Morosi (formerly Spanish Theater), Columbia, Makabayan “Teatro Español”, Cine Fraternidad, Bellevue & Dart.
