How a mesh nebulizer works Unlike older, bulkier jet nebulizers that use a compressed gas, a mesh nebulizer uses a mesh cap with thousands of microscopic holes and a vibrating element to create an aerosol. This process provides efficient and rapid drug delivery. Advantages Mesh nebulizers offer several benefits over other types of nebulizers: Portable and lightweight: Their compact, handheld size and typically battery-operated design make them easy to transport and use on the go. Quiet operation: They are virtually silent, making treatment less stressful for children and for nighttime use. Efficient delivery: The vibrating mesh produces consistent, small particles that can penetrate deep into the lungs. Reduced treatment time: Treatments are typically shorter, lasting only 3 to 10 minutes. Minimal residual waste: Less medication is wasted compared to other nebulizer types. Disadvantages Despite their benefits, mesh nebulizers do have some limitations: Higher cost: They are generally more expensive than traditional jet nebulizers. Clogging potential: The fine mesh can become clogged, especially with thicker medications, if not cleaned properly after each use. Cleaning requirements: They require meticulous and regular cleaning to prevent bacteria buildup and maintain performance.
