This vinyl is Sedaka's Back, a pivotal compilation album by American singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka. Released in 1974, it marked his massive "comeback" in the United States after a decade of fading from the American charts. 💿 Why This Album Matters In the early 1970s, Neil Sedaka was popular in the UK but couldn't get a record deal in the US. Elton John, a huge fan of Sedaka's, signed him to his own new label, The Rocket Record Company. This album was curated specifically for the US market, pulling the best tracks from three of Sedaka's UK-only albums (Solitaire, The Tra-La Days Are Over, and Laughter in the Rain). It was a smash hit, eventually going Gold. 🎼 Key Tracks The album is famous for containing several major hits, including songs that other artists made even more famous: * "Laughter in the Rain": A #1 hit single for Sedaka himself. * "Love Will Keep Us Together": Later a massive #1 hit for Captain & Tennille. * "Solitaire": A signature song later covered by The Carpenters and Elvis Presley. * "The Immigrant": A Top 40 hit dedicated to John Lennon. * "That's When the Music Takes Me": Another high-charting single. Neil Sedaka’s legacy is unique because he didn’t just have one career—he had three distinct lives in music. He is one of the few artists to survive the "British Invasion" of the 1960s and reinvent himself completely. 🏆 Honors & Recognition * Songwriters Hall of Fame: Inducted in 1983. * Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award: Received in 2004 for his outstanding contribution to the craft of songwriting. * Global Record Sales: He has sold over 60 million records worldwide. Even in recent years, Sedaka remained a "constant force," famously hosting "mini-concerts" from his piano during the pandemic to share his music with a new generation of fans online.
