The Intel Pentium G638 is a dual-core processor from Intel's Pentium lineup, released in 2012. It was designed for budget desktop systems, offering sufficient performance for basic computing tasks like web browsing, office applications, and media playback. With a clock speed of 2.7 GHz, it targeted users who needed a low-cost, energy-efficient solution for day-to-day computing but didn't require the advanced capabilities of higher-end processors like Intel Core i3, i5, or i7. It was often used in affordable home or office PCs. The Intel Pentium G638 is based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and uses the LGA 1155 socket. It is compatible with motherboards that support this socket type and have the appropriate chipsets. Typical chipsets that support the G638 processor include: Intel H61 (common in budget systems) Intel H67 Intel P67 Intel Z68 Intel B65 Intel Q67 When choosing a motherboard, you would also want to ensure compatibility with other system components like RAM (usually DDR3), PCIe slots, and storage options. ----- The above info was provided to me by ChatGPT. This was the CPU I upgraded some time ago. I have forgotten about it. It was stored in a dry place with silica gel. This should be 100% working as CPUs rarely fail unlike other components like hard drives, power supplies, or motherboards. Never overclocked. Had light use before it was replaced. The fan is working. One of the retaining pins snapped (see photo).
